Dear Lighthouse Family,

This prayer request is from my daughter-in-law, Tika Holbrook. Please pray for her sister, Felicia. She has a huge abscess on her face, which is very painful. She is in the hospital now and her blood pressure keeps going extremely high and then too low. Because of this they cannot give her any pain medication. They are planning on doing tests to find out about the abscess. She also does not have any insurance. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Please pray for the family of Dolores Salas. Her sister, Judith Barrett, passed away early this morning. Also, pray for her brother, Abel. He fell a couple of weeks ago and the Dr. said he had a mild stroke.

We also have a prayer request from Mike Hale. A good friend, Larry Miller, had a heart cath on Tuesday. Also pray for his wife, Joyce. Her brother, Kenneth, has terminal cancer. Dr.'s have given him two weeks to live and her sister Kathy had a stroke last week.

Britney Griffin's boyfriend, Brian Marker, is in the hospital. He's had stomach problems for years and he went to the Dr. today and found out that one of his kidneys is probably dead. They will be doing tests today to determine what they will need to do. Please keep him in your prayers.

Also pray for Dolores Salas' sister, Judy Barrett. She is not expected to live much longer. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Please pray for a six-year old boy who was in a 4-wheeler accident recently. I spoke with his grandmother and she said he is out of the hospital but has some medical issues. His name is Bryce. Please pray for his recovery and his family as they deal with this situation. They have had a lot of difficult things come up in their lives lately and need the prayers.

"Thanks be to God--Chris is ok. 95% blockage in an artery but a stint was put in and he should be fine. Dr. said that he got there just in time...another heart attack was imminent..God be praised! He should go home tomorrow...Thank you so much for praying....Love to all."

They are in Vanderbilt due to a car wreck on Long Hollow Pk in Hendersonville this past Friday. Neither one is doing very well and Zack is in a coma. Also pray for the family of Damon Dunn who passed away in the accident.

Please pray for a surviving military mother I've been working with on getting a job she applied for today. She has been without work since her son was killed in 2005 in Iraq. Pray for her situation as it has been a rough experience for her.

Also, don't forget about the baby shower for Dominique Pethtel. It is a drop-in shower here at the church from 2-4 pm this Saturday. She is registered at Target & Wal-Mart.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

This is a prayer request update from Selina Hainley concerning Lisa Harrell.

Lisa Harrell, my cousin, had breast cancer 5 years ago. The treatment for the breast cancer gave her leukemia and now that she's defeated leukemia and is in remission she's been told she has a mass on her ovary. The gynecologist told her the medicine used to treat her leukemia has been known to cause ovarian cancer. She has an ultrasound today to determine if it might be cancer - please please pray for good news as she has been through so much and almost every treatment has given her another trial. They say the mass is on the outside of her ovary v. the inside so we are hoping it is just a large female cyst v. a cancerous one. You're prayers are so much appreciated!

***I had requested prayer for Lisa a couple of weeks ago. The good praise report from that is the mass was found on the outside which is an answered prayer in itself - let's keep praying that it's not cancerous!***

Steve Downs called and asked us to pray for John Burnett (his wife's name is Heather). He had a lung biopsy this morning and depending on the results they may have to remove a lung. Please keep him in your prayers.

This prayer request update is from Tiffany Feathers.

Please continue to pay for my newborn niece, Carter. She had some brain tests run earlier today, but the results will probably not be back until tomorrow or maybe even Sunday. The reason for the brain testing is to see if any damage was done due to the limited oxygen she had for the first seven hours of her life. As of today, her open heart surgery is scheduled for Thursday. Please continue to pray for my brother Shawn, and my sister-in-law, Carla, as they deal with all of this. Carla was released from the hospital today.

Also, Bonnie Santini's brother, Clarence, found out today that he has a tumor on his salivary gland. They are planning to remove it on July 27th.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

This request is from Betsy Maxey.

We have been praying for my friend/co-worker, Ken Bilbrey for several months. The following message was sent to me and I would like to forward this as praise/prayer request. He's come a long way, but has a long way to go.

Kenneth Bilbrey was injured from a fall on November 5, 2009. He was working on a storage shed in the back yard of his house. He was up on a ladder using a nail gun while building the roof when the nail gun recoiled, knocking him off of the ladder. He fell and hit his head on a stone at the base of the shed, and wood and a wheel barrow fell and hit his back. He had multiple breaks in his neck, spine and ribs and is paralyzed from the T4 (chest area) down. His wife, Mary, found him face down out there and it is wnknown how long he had been there. They sent him to Vanderbilt trauma via lifeflight. He was in Vanderbilt trauma until December 14the when he was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital at Baptist. He was in a coma as well and on total life support. He was given a 0% chance to live because there were so many things wrong with him. The Friday before Christmas we were told that he would not survive. We kept praying for a miracle and went to see him daily. The Monday & Tuesday of Christmas week, Vickie and Carol (twin daughters)went to see him and read emails to him from various friends who wished him well. He actually opened his eyes and we knew at that point, even though the nurses told us that he was still in a coma, that he was going to come out of the coma. On Christmas not only did he open his eyes, but he started focusing on us as well. Not long after that he started mouthing words to us and asked us what happened to him. He truly had a Christmas miracle.

He went back to Vanderbilt to have surgery to place rods in his spine and try to fix some of the bones that had healed back improperly. He also had stage 4 bedsores and had to have surgery to debride those and remained in the hospital there until the end of May when he was transferred to Atlanta, GA to the Shepherd Center there for rehab. He's been learning how to get around in a wheelchair and learning how to take care of himself there. He should be there until June 29th as an inpatient, and then will to to an apartment there in Atlanta to live with Mary, his wife, to get used to living on their own and continue to go to Shepherd as an outpatient for a few weeks before coming home.

When he comes home he is going to have to have alterations to his house, including a lift in the garage to be able to get into the house, the doors will have to be widened throughout the house, ramps will have to be built and other handicap alterations to house (ie: shower, sinks, cabinets) all of which are costly renovations. He will also need a handicap accessible van. While insurance has already paid millions of dollars in medical bills, they do not cover the vehicle or home alterations.

A fund has been set up at First Tennessee Bank in the name of Ken Bilbrey Benefit Fund. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

This request was sent by Lisa Hackney on Sunday afternoon.

Please pray for my friend and co-worker, Ilene Hale. Ilene was found yesterday not breathing by her husband. He administered CPR and called 911. They again lost her on the way to the hospital. She has a heart condition and is awaiting her third surgery trying to fix it. She is, at this time, stable and suffering some memory loss. Ilene is only 47 and has 2 children. Another brother of Benjie passed away just a couple of years ago and their dad will have a hard time dealing with this.

Please pray for Katherine Everett, Mark & Monica's daughter. They took her to the pediatrician yesterday with a fever & leg pain. After running tests, the doctor sent her to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. They confirmed she has a bacterial infection in her hip and did surgery last night to clean it out. She will be in Vanderbilt for at least 3 days. They are waiting to see if the infection spread to the bone or if it will come back. Please lift Katherine, Mark and Monica up in your prayers.

Thanks to all for praying for my great niece - Kenzie Raulerson - in Florida. Her kidney surgery was delayed by one day, but was performed yesterday. She is doing as well as can be expected after surgery, but is still a very sick little girl. She has developed a staff infection from a previous surgery (last week) and is bring treated for this as well. Please keep her in your prayers during her recovery.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

This prayer request is from Karen Harrell.

I'm asking for prayer for a former co-worker of mine, Ron Pickle. I have had him on our prayer list in the past as he has been sick for several years. I can't remember the name of his disease but it is very rare and the treatments are similar to cancer treatments. Ron's mom had a heart attack last Thursday and is in very critical condition. His dad is not accepting the situation and so Ron is also struggling with dealing with him. He has one brother who seems to think of himself as a "free spirit" and has yet to come to the hospital to visit or help out. Ron's parents live in Bristol, TN. The good news is that he was able to find a doctor there in Bristol who will administer his treatments for now. Please pray for both Ron and his family.

Please pray for the baby of a girl I went to high school with. Her name is Erin, her husband's name is Michael and their baby son's name is Finn. Finn will be at Vanderbilt next Tuesday, Apr. 27th, having surgery on his skull and he will stay there all week for recovery. This update is from Melissa Tinnin.

Thanks for your prayers. Ashley is doing better. She evidently had an allergic reaction to a treatment for ITP. This is a condition that some women suffer with pregnancy where your blood platelets drop due to her body's immune system attacking her platelets. This poses no risk to her or the baby as long as they check her levels every week and once the baby is born she should not suffer with this. They did several tests including an ultrasound to check for any problems and the baby is healthy, no signs of any problems. IT'S A GIRL!!! Due September 14th. We would appreciate your continued prayers for Ashley and the baby. Ashley was released from the hospital late last night.

My son-in-law, Michael Jones, was admitted to ICU last night. The doctors are not sure yet what is going on with him. They are doing tests on him. The only thing we know for sure at this time is he is in acute kidney failure. His heart rate is very high, his blood sugar is very high, his white blood cell count is very high. Michael is not saved. Please pray for him.

This request is from Suzy Burnette.

Please pray for Gail Armstrong's mother and Gail as her mother is in critical care at the hospital in Murfreesboro. They admitted her last night and are running tests to determine what's causing her blood counts to go down. They did a type of upper GI test a few minutes ago and didn't find anything which leads them to believe it could be something in her lower abdomen area. They want to do further testing but don't know if she is able to. On a positive note, they do think that her bleeding has stopped for now and they plan on doing some type of blood treatment.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Gail's mother is in the same critical care room that her father was in when he was ill. Needless to say, the memories of that time are very overwhelming and difficult to deal with.

An MRI detected an abnormal growth in Laura's sinuses near her pituitary gland. CT tests to determine further details will be performed this week. While we are grateful that it was identified while performing an MRI for an unrelated condition, we pray that God removes this so that surgery is not required.

Thank you for your continued prayers regarding my friend with the high risk pregnancy. Her name is Julie and she's my boss. She's now officially through the first trimester of her pregnancy and everything seems to be going very, very well. I know she and her husband, Kevin, would appreciate your continued prayers for the rest of her pregnancy. She's due August 30th.

Also, please pray for another co-worker of mine who just started a very messy divorce. There is a child involved and it's just a very sad situation. As far as I know, my co-worker isn't saved. We've talked about spiritual things many times, but at this point she seems to have no interest. Please pray for her salvation but also for her terrible divorce situation.

I want to say thank you for the prayers for Alisha Nance, the senior at Riverdale that was in a car accident last weekend. I just received the following email update...
"10 am update - God is AMAZING!! Alisha opened her eyes several times for the dr's & us this morning. We were told we could get doctor's orders to bring Addie (her dog) up here, so we told Alisha to wake up & I would go get Addie right now. She started to smile several times & even gave us a chuckle. She may have some brain damage & trauma to her major organs, but God is the GREAT PHYSICIAN. Please keep praying."

"Noon Update - Alisha coughed and threw up! She has her cough reflex!!! Her eyes were wide open. She has a fever and fighting pneumonia. But that is the only infection she has! The doctor is letting Addie (her dog) come see her Today! Have I mentioned how AMAZING GOD IS!!!"

We have a couple of prayer requests that have been called in. The first one is from David Hall. Please pray for his nephew Brian Graves and his wife. They went through a complicated pregnancy and the baby was born early this morning after a long labor. She is in ICU with breathing and heart problems. Her name is Rylan. Please keep this family in your prayers.

This next request is from Bonnie Santini. Julius went in this morning for a test to check for blockages in his heart. They found 2 of his arteries were 95% and 98% blocked and they are putting stints in now. His arteries are badly diseased, he has an aortic aneurism and the main artery in his leg also has a blockage. They are at MTMC at this time. Bonnie & Julius are also Bonita Yancy's parents.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

I wanted to give an update on my friend Kay Childers. They were able to close the skull last Thursday after draining off the excess fluid. She opened her eyes this past weekend and the breathing tube came out yesterday! While she still has a long recovery ahead of her, the doctors have said, barring a secondary infection, she should be able to leave the hospital in a few weeks and then go into rehab. We are so thankful for everyone's prayers-it really is a "God-thing" that she is still with us and doing as well as she is in such a short time.

The results are back on my and Kraig's nephew's CT scan that he had on the potential cyst on his throat. The doctor says the results show no sign of cancer, praise the Lord! They do believe it's just a cyst but will send it for further testing once it's out just to be sure there is definitely no cancer. I'm not sure when the surgery is but I know they're scheduling it soon.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

We have a prayer request from Connie Hutchinson.

Please pray for one of the ladies with intellectual disabilities that I work with. She is currently in ICU due to choking on a marshmallow. Due to her loss of oxygen, the doctors are concerned with possible brain damage. She has been having seizures today and more tests are to be run at around 6pm. Her mother/guardian is in her 80's and does not live locally. Please pray for her, her family & friends, and all of her medical personnel during this time.

We also have a prayer request update and prayer request from Jenny Pierce. Her grandson, Nate, passed the staple and some sequins this morning and is doing fine. Jenny's mother has been very anemic for the past several weeks and they think she is losing blood somewhere. They will be doing more tests so please pray that they can find the source of her bleeding and will be able to fix the problem.

Tammy Chandler called and asked us to pray for a friend of hers, Kaye Childers. She had brain Aneurism repair on Monday and part of it broke off. After a lengthy surgery they were able to fix the problem but she is now in a coma. She is a Christian and the family is requesting healing but most of all that God's will be done.

Also, Jenny Pierce called and her grandson Nate swallowed a staple and something else at school and is now at the Dr's office. Please keep him in your prayers.

Travis was transported last night to Vanderbilt. It is unclear at this time if this was due to his condition worsening or if this was a precautionary measure. Please keep this young man in your prayers.

I also ask for your continued prayers for my Dad. He has had two surgeries on his right eye due to a torn retina. The report from the doctor yesterday was that the latest surgery was unsuccessful and he will have to have another within the next few days.

This prayer request is from Michelle Huffman, dated 1/1/10.

Please continue to pray for the family of AC Cunningham. He is a former pastor from back home who suffers with Alzheimer's. He wandered out of his house last Monday evening and they still have not been able to locate him.
We know that he is a child of God and that if he has gone on to be with our Savior he is better off than we are; however, this is very hard on his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Please keep the family and search teems in your prayers. One of his grandchildren and her husband are missionaries in Indonesia so it must be very difficult being so far away.

Please pray for another one of our employees at the bakery. Her name is Brittany. Her fiance's grandmother passed away yesterday morning. From what I hear she was ill. They had planned to put her on a ventilator at some point yesterday but she passed away before they got a chance to.

Brittany from the bakery:
Fiance's grandmother was able to be revived and is on full life support. Still in ICU and not doing well. The only thing keeping her alive is morphine for the pain and the life support. Will update when I have more.

We also have an update from Pam Barnett.

Thank you all so much for praying for my step-daughter, Krystal. She came out of surgery just fine, only a little sore, and is home resting. They did not have to do a hysterectomy which is a huge answer to prayer. Thank you all for your prayers and continue to pray for her recovery.

I have two prayer requests this morning. First of all, a family back home has been searching for their elderly father/grandfather since Monday night. He wandered outside around 11pm Monday and they have still not found him.

I just got a phone call and a dear friend of ours, Frank Todd (goes to Franklin Road Baptist), fell out of his attic Christmas day and broke 3 bones in his neck. He is in a lot of pain and the Dr. can't do anything about it until the swelling goes down. He is in Vanderbilt. The family has been called in. So please pray for God's healing. Many people know him as Dorris Todd's husband, she had a pre-school that lots of kids went to.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

We have a prayer request from Betsy Maxey.

Hey guys, if you could keep Ken in your prayers I'd appreciate it. The man has retired twice now, once from Metro years ago and now just recently in the county. So he's been in our lives/school system for about 40 years. God love him, he apparently was feeling invincible still and tried to do some work on the roof by himself. He fell off of the roof at his house and several logs and the wheel barrow ended up on top of him on his back. His wife was not home at the time and found him several hours later. He as life-flighted to Vanderbilt Hospital and is in the trauma unit.
He has three broken ribs and has a fractured vertebrae in his neck and a broken vertebrae in the mid-spine area. He is not able to feel anything or move anything from the waist down. The neurosurgeons say that it doesn't look good at all and he will probably not be able to walk again. They will be operating on him today.
Ironically, he just had knee replacement in both knees two years ago and was finally walking without pain for the first time in years. Pray for him, please.

She will be 3 months old on the 14th...they found she had an ovarian cyst when I was pregnant with her..well after she was born they thought it might go away by itself, but it didn't. The weight of it caused her ovary and fallopian tube to twist and the cyst got bigger so they are gonna do laprasoptic surgery to untwist the ovary and fallopian tube and drain the fluid from the cyst but they said so far there is no damage to her ovary or fallopian tube so that's great!

We have a couple of prayer requests this morning. The first one is from Doris Radford and Susan Martin.

Please pray for our mother. She was taken to MTMC Saturday morning for what we thought was a UTI. In the process of testing and CT scans a fairly massive growth has been found in the bladder and a small mass in each lung. At present the doctors are assuming the presence of cancer in the bladder and are wanting to do a biopsy on one of the lung masses to see if it is a spread of bladder cancer or something entirely separate. We have not yet told mom all this in waiting for the doctor to get a plan together, as she is very weak. She will probably be told today and the final decision will be hers.

Also, as most of you know, Mom has been on the prayer list for salvation for quite some time.

Please pray for Gail Armstrong's mother & father Josephine & Edmon Rigsby. Josephine fell and had surgery last Thursday for a broken wrist and will probably need another surgery on her shoulder. I received this email from a very good friend of mine, Heather, concerning her father. Heather's brother, Josh, is a missionary to Brazil along with his wife and three sons.

"I am asking everyone to pray for my dad. As most of you know, he and my mom are supposed to be leaving on September 14th to fly to Brazil to spend time with my brother and his family. My dad went to his heart doctor for a routine check-up to make sure things are good before he goes out of the country. Well, the news we got was shocking. My dad's heart is in atrial fibrillation, which is what he had heart surgery for 2 years ago. The EKG showed some things that were concerning to the doctor so my dad has to have an arteriogram tomorrow morning at 7:00 am to check for blockages. Then, depending on what that shows, he will have to have a cardiovert on his heart but we are just not sure when.
Please pray that there will be no blockages and that they can perform the cardiovert and he is still able to go see Josh. He is so looking forward to this trip!

We have a couple of prayer requests. The first one is from Nancy Goodloe.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for their prayers for Sam's eye. It should heal completely within a couple of weeks.

My Dad will be having heart surgery on the 27th. They do not have to open his chest but instead will be able to go through his side, so that is a huge praise. He will be 78 next month so his age is playing a huge factor in the surgery and recovery time. Most importantly please continue to pray for his salvation. He has admitted that the Lord is working in his life (miracle) and they have been attending church (another miracle). We have a prayer request from Sara Kenderdine.

My grandmother received word last night that they are going to have to amputate her second leg. She has had heart disease since she was 8. Her heart is not strong enough to withstand being under anesthesia, so they say she will not make it through the surgery. If she does not have the surgery, the poison will eventually make it's way through her body. She is on her way to the hospital today to talk with the doctors. Please pray for their wisdom, and help my grandma see God working in her life once again. She does know Christ, but is very unstable right now. I am very appreciative of your prayers!! Also, a granddaughter of Jeri's had multiple seizures last night that caused her to have a stroke. She is only 6 months old. She was taken to Vanderbilt last night and they aren't sure if she will make it.

Hello Church Family,

I have a few urgent prayer requests. A coworker of mine has a lot of family health problems going on right now. One of her uncles is battling cancer and it just took a turn for the worse this week. He has been in the hospital since Tuesday. Another one of her uncles has a failing liver due to alcohol poisoning. He has been in the hospital for the past few weeks as well. His body has lost all control, and today they just sent him home. Hospice has come in to make him comfortable, and there isn't much time.
On top of all this, they just life-flighted her step father to Vanderbilt because he has an abnormal growth in his throat that is blocking his breathing. If you would please lift her up in your prayers. Her name is Stacey Holt. Thank you so much for being a praying church family!

Many of you have been praying for the mother and children who were severely burned in a home gas fire Thursday morning. Complications have arisen and things have taken an even more devastating turn. Here's the latest update I've received. This was as of this morning (Sunday, June 7th):

"This morning Lindsey's son, 3 year old Ewen, passed away. Her daughter, 4 year old Emma, has developed respiratory infections. Lindsey has already had two surgeries for skin grafts and will continue to have one each day as long as everything goes well. Lindsey is still under sedation and will be for a while. She has no idea what is going on. Please be in prayer for Lindsey and Emma as they continue to recover and have a long road ahead of them. Also pray for the family as they have to deal with all of this and the passing of little Ewen."

I have an update on the request I e-mailed yesterday regarding the girl I used to go the church with who, along with her children plus one child she was babysitting, got burned when her gas stove exploded yesterday morning. Here's and update I was recently e-mailed:

Katie (one of the children) will be home next week and will have follow-up appointments. The mother (Lindsay) is in surgery and is expected to do well (Please continue to really pray for her). Her two children (Emma & Ewen) are stable and have no present complications.

Please pray for a family that Kraig and I used to go to church with when we lived in Chattanooga. One of the adult daughters (Lindsey) of the family (who was a teenager in the youth group when Kraig and I went there) along with two children plus a child she was babysitting were airlifted to Erlanger this morning. Preliminary reports indicate Lindsay was lighting her gas stove to prepare breakfast when the stove exploded. Please pray for Lindsay and the children. Also, Lindsay's parents, Jay & Linda Aarseth, are missionaries to Guam so please pray for them to know what to do being so far away. We have requested prayer for my brother, Gary, who has had Prostate cancer surgery, and now discovered he has a melanoma on his arm. I received this e-mail this morning from my sister-in-law, Renee, who has also been dealing with breast cancer for the last year.
"Thank you for praying. Gary's surgery is postponed. We got as far as the surgical table with shirt off when the dr. said he wanted to discuss removing a lymph node in addition to the melanoma on his arm. So after a long conversation, we decided that Gary should have the sentinel lymph node removed and checked to be sure the melanoma had not spread. That will be under general anesthesia and at Memorial Hospital in the next week. We will keep you posted and we love and appreciate you all."

The coast guard called off the search Sunday night and we've had terrible rains for 24 hrs. They have found the boat and some belongings and are pretty much... waiting for the bodies to surface. This is a horrible thing and it makes me think how precious life really is. It is basically a recovery effort now and I hope they can find them so the parents can have a proper burial."

Randy and I just got off the phone with his grandmother in Arkansas. She has asked that we pray for Randy's grandfather, Ken Reaves. A few weeks ago he suffered a small stroke and has done better since then. Yesterday she discovered blood in his urine. He had colon cancer around 10 years ago and has been cancer free since then. His oncologist wanted to see him immediately yesterday. His is being sent to a cancer urologist this Wednesday.
Pappaw turned 87 last week. Please pray for God's will and for wisdom and strength for Randy's Grandmother, Nel. She is an amazing woman with lots of life in her and she is still taking care of them both at their house.

This is a gentelman that I work with. He and his family are members of New Vision Baptist Church. This is his prayer request to his church.

Our son Branson was born October 26, 2008. We discovered early in the pregnancy that he has Down's Syndrome. We prayed, cried, prayed some more and came to grips with that, realizing that God was just giving us a very special gift.
When Branson was born he had other challenges. He was born with a condition called "Bladder exstrophy". During development in the womb his pelvis did not close comepletely causing the midline of his body to remain partially open. His bladder formed on the outside of his body, and because he was 5 weeks premature they were unable to perform the required surgery due to his small size. Surprisingly none of this is related to Down;s Syndrome.
Branson is going to have surgery in April. The orthopedic surgeons are going to cut his pelvis on both sides in order to bring it fully together; then the urologist will repair his bladder, put it inside where it belongs, and repair his penis and urethra. He will be a guest of Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for 4-6 weeks. This is the first in a series of surgeries that will be required over the next few years.
The success rate for this surgery is only 40% so we need lots and lots of prayer! We would request that everyone on the prayer team and any Christians they know please continue to pray for Branson because we truly do believe that God works miracles and answers prayer. God has chosen Andrea and I to raise up this wonderful child in a manner that is pleasing to Him. How honored we are to be able to witness His hand in our lives every day and to be able to share that blessing with our church family. Please keep Branson in your prayers for healing in his upcoming surgeries, pray for the surgeons that God will guide their hands, and pray for us to have the strength and wisdom to care for him as he heals and grows.

My step-sister is still having trouble coming to terms with her mother's death and it has been a few years. She also struggles with several medical conditions herself. She is really hurting right now and I am sure that this tragedy has not even hit her yet. Please pray that God would just wrap His arms around her and the family and comfort them. Please pray for Jackson's eyes. We took him to the doctor yesterday for a second opinion & his doctor diagnosed him with amblyopia or "lazy eye". It is not uncommon in kids but his type is seen in only 1%. Because the left eye is sending blurry images to the brain, the brain just shuts down the information from it. His right eye has perfect vision but his left eye is close to legally blind with his glasses. The doctor wants to be aggressive with his treatment, stating Jackson's type of amblyopia is hard to treat but nothing is too hard for God. Jackson has to wear a patch on his good eye 24 hours a day for at least 3 months & probably longer to force his bad eye to work harder. Please pray for him first, to be healed, and second, to be safe. This is hard for him.

We wanted to give an update regarding the baby. We had an ultrasound done Tuesday in Kampala since I'm 19 weeks. It's definitely a girl. As the tech was doing the scan, we started noticing some definite differences from when we had a scan done 4 weeks ago. (Everything was exactly on target then, the baby was moving well, and everything was normal.) I noticed the technician was really quiet too. (She's the same lady that first diagnosed Elijah and has done all of our scans since then. We've become good friends and usually chat all the way through the ultrasounds.) To summarize what we found out...The lower extremities on both of the baby's arms and legs are severely deformed and unable to move. Both feet are clubbed. There are also some other deformities. After looking at everything, the tech and doctor are 99% sure the baby has what is called Trisomy 18, which is a degenerative genetic disease. If so, the baby will only continue to decline. Frequently these babies die before birth, but for those that do survive the average life expectancy is about 2-3 weeks. I have seen where one has lived to be 3, but she can't talk, walk, eat by herself (uses a feeding tube), etc. The babies who do survive require 24/7 care for their entire lives. The only way to be completely certain that this is Trisomy 18 is to do genetic testing (amniocentesis)...unfortunately this can't be done in Uganda. There are numerous other variables, but I won't take the time to go into detail here. The doctor is suggesting that we return to the US for testing and for the birth since there are no adequate facilities in Uganda.

We were a little surprised to say the least. But the Lord had already prepared me that there might be something wrong. I also hadn't felt any movement for about 3 weeks. We know that God's ways aren't always our ways, but we also know that God's ways are perfect.

We are praying for God's leading on when to leave. We were scheduled to have furlough in December but this is significantly earlier to pack up and head out. Right now we're in a daily waiting game. Since the baby has no movement, I have to have weekly ultrasounds to determine if the baby is still alive. If at any point it dies in the womb, I will have to have an immediate C-section.

We appreciate your prayers on our behalf and will keep you updated as things progress. Just a little over a week before the scan, the Lord very clearly impressed 2 verses on me: I Thess. 3:3 "That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto." and I Cor. 13:7 "Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."

We don't know if our baby will live to delivery, if it will be severely deformed and die shortly after birth, or if it will just be physically deformed and have an otherwise healthy life, but we DO know that God has a perfect plan for us and that He will lead us each step of the way.

My sister told me just a few minutes ago that the doctors were more concerned about potential risks than they have in the past with similar conditions. The person that I would like to send a prayer request in fo is Mary Mittenburg in Sedalia, Missouri. This past spring, I have a co-worker that went to the doctor due to swelling in her face. She was diagnosed with a form of Lymphoma. She started chemotherepy treatments and the cancer started to go away. About 2 months later when she went back to the doctor, the doctor discovered that the cancer not only came back, but was starting to spread. She has continued to undergo chemo treatments, and is in need of bone marrow. The doctors at the University of Kansas Medical Center have been trying to harvest her bone marrow so it can be purified of any cancer and reinsert the marrow. She was to have the marrow harvested the first time during the week of Christmas, but was unable due to a low amount of marrow. She had received additional medication to have this procedure done, but is still unable due to her white blood count very low. If the harvesting is unable to work, then she will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Her friends, family and coworkers are continuing to pray that these treatments work and that whe is able to go into remission.Please pray for her.

We have this prayer request from Nancy Goodloe:

Within the last few months, my brother who has a lawn service business had 2 commercial mowers, brand new leaf blower & several other pieces of equipment stolen. While he was at church the thieves just backed their vehicle up to his trailer & took off. The police do not expect to find it; however the insurance company did send him a check that may cover one (1) new mower. A few weeks before this happened someone hit his truck & the insurance agent recommended he drop all coverage with the exception of liability since the truck was built in 1990. Today he was driving to Cookeville to pick up a used mower and his truck caught on fire and burned to the ground. Ricky has only been a Christian for about 5 years. When he came to live with me he was literally living in the woods in FL, addicted to drugs and doing just about anything to get his next fix. He knows God is and will continue to take care of him but I feel he is being hit from all sides like Job was. Please pray for him.

Dear Lighthouse family,

I just got off the phone with my parents in NY. They were caught in the Noreaster that hit there last night. They've lost power, over a dozen trees fell on their property (thankfully, none hit the house) and there is about 2 feet of water in the basement/bottom level of their home. Please pray for strength, safety and grace as they try to salvage belongings, keep generators and pumps running, and help other neighbors in the same predicament as well. A praise is that their hot water heater/furnace was high enough that the pilot was not touched by the water and the wood burning stove firebox was not flooded (this is how they heat their home). They will lose the furniture downstairs, as it is soaked, and they have the added expenses of keeping the pumps and generators running.

One final thing--please pray for my dad as he prepares his message for Sunday. Since this has affected several families in the community, I know people who do not normally attend church may be there this week and I am praying God gives my dad just the right words.

Thank you for all your prayers! It's good to have a church family here to pray for our family far away. We appreciate how special it is to be a part of a praying church!

I thought I would pass along the good news I received from Brian and Amy Guthrie this afternoon. Their daughter, Harper, attends our AWANA Cubbie program and some of the teens may know Brian (he teaches and coaches at Siegel High). She has had kidney issues since she was born. She had to have ANOTHER kidney surgery today. I received the following email from Amy.

Hey,
Harper had surgery today and it went very well. we are very encouraged by the possibility of no more tests and surgeries.
I think I cried the whole time, but now I am just relieved and thankful. Two of the elders from church were there to pray with us, and I would cry and they would pat me, then that would make me cry more. It wasn't pretty.

She is home and doing great. thanks for your continued friendship. I miss you.

I realize that many, many families in this country have been touched by layoffs already. Nonetheless, when it hits close to home, doesn't that send us to our knees in a hurry? Apparently, Bridgestone has announced its first 150 layoffs to occur on Dec 21st (Merry Christmas, right) and it may be by department rather than seniority, so no one is excluded from the possibility. 500 more may occur sometime next year. This may affect a number of families in our church family, so I ask for your prayers. Not just for God to intervene, necessarily, because we know that He will provide, but that the marriages and the families will hold strong and be faithful to Him. Thank you, Lighthouse, and God bless you all. It is just another opportunity for us to shine and I pray for our faithfulness to do so.

I had informed you that we had a pending Reduction In Force that would affect my Sales Organization. I am happy to say that I survived the RIF but we did lose 1/3 of our inside sales force. Please keep them in your prayers. I�m praying this time will lead those who don�t know Him to the Lord.

Please pray for the Nancy Levi family. Nancy passed away very unexpectedly Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Her son, Jon, and daughter-in-law, Kristi, are friends of ours and Nancy was a 7th and 8th grade teacher at McFadden. She has taught many years in this county (at different levels)and there is no doubt she has been an inspiration to hundreds of students.
Please pray for Jon and Kristi and their girls during this time as well as the students and faculty at McFadden. McFadden is a small school and all of the students were touched by her death.

I talked with my brother Sunday afternoon and my 4 year old nephew is in ICU in Florida. He contracted Influenza A and it swelled his airways shut. He was taken off the respirator Sunday afternoon and is breathing on his own, but he's not "out of the woods" yet. My brother asks for prayer not only for Caleb, but also for him and his wife Erin as they have to make decisions and neither one of them has gotten very much sleep. On top of all that, Erin's uncle is in the same hospital with complications from heart surgery and they are not sure if he will come through or not. Thanks for your prayers for this family!

Would you remember Sara Jenkins in your prayers these next few days. She is the mom of a close school pal and she is in St. Thomas following a heart attack last week. We thought that she was getting much better as of Tuesday, but Tuesday evening her heart ruptured and now the Drs. say there is not much hope, that they have done all they can. We know that God works miracles, He is the great physician. Please pray for a miracle, but ultimately His will to be done. Urgent prayer request for Pam Barnett

Dear Lighthouse family,

Many of you know that Jeff Barnett was admitted to Centennial on Wednesday, and was diagnosed with acute leukemia. This was confirmed through tests, and he started receiving aggressive chemotherapy on Friday due to the severity of the leukemia. However, this morning (Saturday), Jeff's heart stopped, and the doctors attempted to administer CPR, but were unsuccessful, as the Lord took Jeff home to be with him.

We know this is very difficult for the family, but we are comforted to know that Jeff is no longer in any pain or suffering. Our hearts go out to his wife, Pam, and to Casey and Julia as well. Please keep this family in your prayers, as God wraps His arms of love around them.

Dear Church family,

I would like to ask you to pray for one of my co-workers, Ron Pickle. He has been on our prayer list before. A few years ago he was diagnosed with a very rare disease (can't remember the name of it right now) and he had to go out on disability for a long time. He was able to come back to work a couple of years ago and seemed to be doing better. I found out last Friday that he has gone back out on disability and they think it will be permanent this time. The disease he has is not cancer, but is very similar in that it attacks different areas of his body. It is now attacking his bones. Most of the treatment he will undergo now is all experimental as there is not much known about his disease. He is suppose to have back surgery tomorrow and surgery on his shoulder next. Ron is a Christian and I know he is clinging to God right now for strength. Please pray for him as well as the doctors as they continue with the surgeries and treatments. Thank you for your prayers!

Dear Lighthouse Family,
I have been anxious to give you an update on my dad all week, but we have had conflicting results and did not know what to report.
As many of you know he was hospitalized last weekend after fighting with symptoms for weeks (he is a diabetic and they thought his symptoms were just a result of meds). On Sunday, they thought he was in congestive heart failure, having problems with Atrial Fibulation, and his kidneys were not working. He was retaining fluids to a dangerous degree and they said he was critical.
Monday evening, new results came in that said he did have damage to the kidneys and that he needed to be moved to a hospital where he could have a kidney specialist. They also said the "A-fib" was still a problem but thankfully they took off the congestive heart failure diagnosis.
Since he was moved we now have a kidney specialist and a cardiologist, we know he has gout and not arthritis, and unfortunately because he is at risk of falling we are fighting the development of bed sores (for a diabetic bed sores are not an option). They still can't find the "cause" of the kidney failure so they want to do a kidney biopsy.
I just got off the phone with my sister and the doctor has decided they are going to put him on dialysis. They have given him drugs for pain so that he can rest - he has not been able to get comfortable or sleep due to the fluids in his body for weeks. They are desiring to do surgery today so he can start dialysis immediately but his heart is still in "A-Fib" and beating too fast, so we are waiting to hear if they are going to do surgery today.

Thank you for praying for my dad and for me. I have felt your prayers throughout the week and some days it is all that has helped me through the day. Please continue to pray for his health, but more importantly pray for his spiritual health as well. You will never know how much each of you mean to me.

Finally, I am home and in front of a computer to give you this good news. Roger Clapp called to say the the checkup with their daughter, Lucy, went well. As I understand it, they were concerned about a heart murmur, and the doctors found a very small hole in her heart(pinhole sized) . The doctors feel that with medication and time, this should heal pretty quickly, and that Roger and Bonny should not have to worry. Of course, continue to pray for the situation, and for Lucy's quick healing--they will keep on top of the situation. Thank you for praying, and for your continued prayers.

Dear Lighthouse family,

I just talked to David Lucas on the phone. As you may remember, his father, Frank Lucas, is in the hospital and they do not expect him to live much longer, perhaps within 24 hours.

We have also had David's brother, Don, on our prayer list as well. Don was rushed to the hospital this evening, and unexpectedly passed away tonight. Needless to say, it is an extremely difficult time for David and his family.

We ask you to bathe David and his family in your prayers, and that God will have his hand upon David's dad, Frank, as well as comfort for Don's family.

We will give you more information as it becomes available.

We had an incident this week which is prompting us to ask you for specific prayer for the orphanage. Someone tried to poison our orphans/workers. Our orphan manager, JJ, found rat poison buried in the beans that were to be served to the orphans the following day. (We praise the Lord that He prompted JJ to go and check the kitchen at night prior to going to bed, as this is not his usual custom.) Please pray that we can find the person/persons who are responsible for trying to hurt our workers and orphans. Also, pray for the continued safety of all those in our ministry.

My niece, Brigitte, will possibly being having surgery on Friday, Sept. 8. She has been diagnosed with pre-cancerous cells in her cervix, stage 2. She does know Jesus as her personal Savior, what a praise! She is only 26 with 2 young children and she is hoping this will �wake� her Dad up to trust Christ also. She is a strong young woman who says she is not worried about herself but praying for her Dad�s salvation. My prayer would be that when she goes to the doctor on Thursday that she is completely healed, but if that is not God�s will that He would definitely heal her through surgery on Friday.

Let's "Go All Out" on Wednesday

Dear Lighthouse family,

Our missions celebration has been, as always, a wonderful week. Wednesday night is our last service at 7 p.m. Let's do our best to be faithful and attend on this last night. Richie Orrick, missionary to Wales, will show his media and preach. If you heard Richie preach Sunday night, you know what a wonderful challenge and a blessing he was, and will be God uses him Wednesday night. We have purposely limited our preliminaries so we can be done around 8 p.m.

CHOIR: We will sing in the services. Do your best to be here by 6:30 for a brief rehearsal.

KIDS: If you are in the group of kids that have been rehearsing on Wednesday nights, you also need to be here around 6:30 to go over the song with the choir. We are so excited that you will have a part in the service!

Of course, we will be serving a meal from 5:30-6:30, because we know weeknights can be crazy. If you haven't signed up, but wish to eat with us, please call the church office at 895-1357, so we can make sure we have enough food. The cost is only $3 per person, and kids 4 and under are free.

Again, let us encourage you to "Go All Out" and be at the missions conference this Wednesday!

I previously asked for prayer for my friend Stephanie who was sick with Streptococcus Pyogenes. She is not any better and will be meeting with cardiologists today to determine when she will need to proceed with surgery. Please continue to pray for her and her family. She is only in her mid thirties and has two wonderful little boys.

Also my brother called yesterday to thank us for our prayers & to tell everyone his Pastor is now cancer free!

I will be fine, but please pray for my step-mom and dad(Keith and Candy Wait). Heather was single and livedcin Wyoming and my folks are in MO. There is much to be considered in addition to the emotional factors.

Secondly, a friend of mine from high school, Tyena Belmer has had to life-flight her daughter to the hospital. I only know that she is 9 and a horse kicked her in the face and there is concern for her surviving this.

I received this message yesterday from my friend's husband, please pray for her.

Stephanie has come down with a bacterial infection known as Streptococcus Pyogenes. Years ago this was a severe complication known to lead to Scarlet Fever. Because of today�s technology and the fact that it was caught early, it can be addressed through aggressive antibiotic treatment. She will be in the hospital most likely until Friday. After that, she will undergo antibiotic treatment daily for 6 weeks.

A blessing is that her husband accepted a job in Mobile about a month ago which is close to family so they are able to help with the children.

By all accounts, VBS was a tremendous success--and all glory goes to the Lord. But the Lord uses willing people, and there was a host of amazing people who worked very hard before, during, and after VBS. Thanks to all who stayed and helped clean up and set the church back up for Sunday--you were ALL such an incredible blessing, and got so much work done in such a short time! WOW!

Dear Church Family,
As some of you may know my aunt, Renee VanDyke has been diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. She actually has two types of cancer, one of which didnt have a cure until 2 years ago. She and my uncle(my mom's brother) have a ministry called Food for Orphans and are doing a wonderful job. They are both very godly people and love the Lord. We know everything happens for a reason and our family and people all over the world praying for them. She will be having 6 treatments every 3 weeks for 18 weeks, and it will be very intense. As you know with cancer and chemo treatments you will lose your hair. She has beautiful hair and is really struggling with the thought of losing it. She has been looking at getting a wig but they cost around $2000. However, there is an organization called Pantene Beautiful Lengths and it is similar to locks of love but they make wigs for adult women with cancer. I, along with my mother, and several other family members will be growing our hair to donate it. I would love it if some of you might be willing to do the same. Two prayer requests from Tiffany Feathers

Dear Lighthouse family,

We have two prayer requests from Tiffany Feathers:

Please pray for friends of a friend of mine, Gretchen and Jeremy and their twin boys. Gretchen is about 24 weeks pregnant with twin boys and is having complications. The babies had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome, which means they were sharing blood vessels in the placenta causing their survival rate to be very low. Surgery was performed & 21 connections were found, cut & cauterized, which will now allow the babies to be on their own. It is thought now that the larger of the two babies will now have a reasonable chance of survival. The smaller baby, however, was observed during surgery to share a very small part of the placenta, which places him at great risk. If one baby survives and the other does not, both babies still have to be carried to term. Please pray for this couple and their two babies. Gretchen is on bed rest until delivery, which hopefully won't be for several more weeks.

Also, please pray for Shelby and Bob Feathers' dad who lives in Pennsylvania. He was taken to the hospital and is assumed to have had a seizure. According to Shelby's younger sister who is with Shelby's dad at the hospital, he is doing okay now, but, of course, needs prayer.

We have a prayer request that has been e-mailed from Tiffany Feathers:

Please pray for a co-worker of mine and her family. She and her husband have been raising their granddaughter for the last few years. This was never meant to be a permanent situation as they were giving the girl's mother (who lives out of state) a chance to get her life in order. The mother now feels her life is straightened out and she can provide the proper environment for her daughter. My co-worker and her husband will soon be going to visit the mother to evaulate her living conditions, etc. If the evaluation is good, they will be going to court to reassign custody. They are excited for their granddaughter to possibly be reunited with her mother, but are also very saddened since she's lived with them for so long and will be moving out of state. So please pray for the whole situation and especially for all the adjusting that will need to be done by all parties involved. My co-worker and her husband are both Christians and covet your prayers. Exciting news about Homecoming and our web site!

Dear Lighthouse family,

We trust that you are planning on attending our special Homecoming services this Sunday, June 8. We wanted to remind you that there is no 8 a.m. service, no Sunday School, and no evening service. We will have one service beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a special message from the pastor and great music from The Needhams.

After service, we will have a carry-in dinner. This year, due to the heat, we will have the dinner in the cool, air-conditioned INSIDE of the building. After the dinner, we will enjoy a great concert by The Needhams at 1 p.m. Invite your friends to come this Sunday; and if they cannot make the 10:30 service, invite them to the concert.

Also, I have been busy putting many new photos on the website. There are photos of the completed student building online; so if you have not seen it, you may do so. Bro. Jeff, Pastor Ray, and many others, have done a fantastic job on completing the building. Also, there are many photos of the recent End of School Bash Hike up Monteagle Mountain, and (finally) photos of "The Story of Easter 2008".

We will pass word along to you on how Karen's surgery went when we receive word. Continue to pray for her.

Please pray for my friend Julie Dill today as she's going to the hospital at 10:30EST to have a c-section at 12:30EST (she lives in Chattanooga.) She's not actually due until June 22nd, but her baby is breech and he's also very big (according to an ultrasound she had two weeks ago he was already 7 1/2 pounds at that time) so the doctor thinks it's best to go ahead today. She's understandably very nervous about the surgery, but knows it's necessary and for the best. She and her husband, Eric, have been through a lot over the last three or four years with being pregnant six times and having six miscarriages so I'm just praying that everything goes as perfectly as possible for them today.

"Thank you all for your prayers and your words or encouragement. Here is an update on my dad.

My sister, Barbara, called late last night, and said they had done hydrotherapy to remove all the dead skin. They had him wrapped and resting.

He has 3rd degree burns on his face, but they hadn�t determined the rest of his body yet. His eyes were ok, and his lungs as far as they could tell. So that is HUGE! He has severe asthma, so that is big. They shaved his head. He was waking up, and moving his arms around, and trying to get up, but they sedated him again to keep him calm.

He will be in the hospital for several weeks. So I�ll be heading to Kansas in the next day or two.

Thank you again. I�ll tell him, and Mom about each of you and your promised prayers for them and for us. What a comfort God gives through his children.

Below is an email I received just a few minutes ago from a good friend of mine who lives in Trenton, GA:

"Dear Friends and Family,

I'm typing to ask for your prayers RIGHT NOW for my dad in Kansas. He was burning off some "stuff" at a barn, and got caught in a flash fire, and was
badly burned over much of his body, I think from the waist up. My sister in law is a First Responder with the ambulance, and said he was in a lot of pain, but he was able to call 911 on his cell phone.

They air-lifted him to KU Medical Center in Lawrence, about 30 minutes away, for expediency.

My 3 youngest siblings are there with him. Matthew, my youngest, who lives with my parents right now was home and was able to stay with my Mom, as her
limited mobility does not allow her to go to the hospital.

Barbara my sister just called. He is in the burn unit, and they have taken him into surgery to remove all the burned skin, and be able to better assess the damage. They will also be checking internally for damage to see if
there were any inhalation problems. They did say he was in good health for
his age (77).

Please pray for him now and throughout these next days as God brings him to your mind. And for my family. He and my mom are what hold us all together.

I received a call from my sister in LA requesting prayer for her friend's son, Derrick Rosser. Derrick is 7 1/2 yrs. old & is autistic. He had to have his tonsils removed last week & has hardly eaten anything since then. He is still thinking that if he eats it will hurt so he refuses to eat. He has lost another 2 lbs. this week & will probably be admitted to the hospital tomorrow for IVs. Thank you again for your prayers.

Thank you, church family, for praying! Because of your prayers, I have two praises to report:

1.) I sent a request about a month ago regarding my boss's 6 year old niece, Sydney, who almost had her finger cut off from being slammed in the door. Well, the surgeon at Vanderbilt did a wonderful job sewing it all back together and it looks as though Sydney is going to get to keep her finger with the only repercussion being that it'll probably won't look completely "normal."

2.) When my nephew, Cayden, arrived at Vanderbilt Friday afternoon, the hematologist decided against doing a blood transfusion right away and instead wanted to try an IV drug that can sometimes assist in building back platelets. Well, as of yesterday, Cayden's platelet count is almost back to normal, praise God! He will have his platelet count checked again in 4-6 weeks just to make sure his body has continued to produce platelets correctly.

We have two prayer requests that have been e-mailed in. My apologies for not getting them out until this morning--there was no way I could check e-mail while we were at the couples retreat, but we did get home late last night, so here goes:

The first request is from Tiffany Feathers:

Please pray for my 21 month old nephew, Cayden. He's on his way to Vanderbilt right now for a blood transfusion as his blood platelet count was down to one and it's supposed to be several thousand. He will probably be in the hospital anywhere from one to seven days until the transfusion takes and his blood begins to clot. The doctors at the ER in Tullahoma along with my nephew's pediatrician have told my brother, Shawn, that this is a freak thing that can sometimes happen in children without there really being a reason why.

The second request is from Karen Harrell:

I would like to ask for prayer for Sarah Laakso. Some of you may remember her as Sarah Erdly. Her and her husband Jason attended Lighthouse a few years ago. She is re-married now and lives in Michigan. I received a letter from her yesterday. Sarah was hit by a truck while she was out walking last year. She had several broken bones, all of which have healed except for her left arm, which is now paralyzed. She said she also has a head injury and is currently living in a rehabilitation center. She gets to go home for one day on the weekends. I would ask that you please remember Sarah and her recovery process in your prayers. I will be sending her a letter this weekend and I will be sure to let her know that her friends at Lighthouse are praying for her. If anyone would like her address, please let me know. Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

Thanks to the overwhelming response of your prayers, Joel is now recovering at home. He was released on Thursday afternoon, a couple days earlier than expected. He is supposed to be in isolation from other kids and people for a week. The doctors think that his will recovery will take about a month, which is much better than the norm of 2-5 months. He will be under medication to prevent seizures and to reduce swelling on the brain, and the doctors will checkup on him in about a week.

Mindy and I have much to be thankful for! Encephalitis can cause death or paralyzation, but God protected little Joel, and he is now walking and playing at home!

Please pray for a FULL recovery as his brain is repairing any damage that was done. The brain takes much longer to recover from an injury than other parts of the body such as muscles, bones or skin.

Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement that so many have sent. We truly appreciate it!

I know I just sent you a prayer request, but Tammy Chandler just forwarded this e-mail to me. Many of you know Jerry Kinman, a BBFI missionary that we support in Guatemala. He has sent out this e-mail:

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

We have had a pretty scary couple of days--- early Tuesday morning, April 1, we rushed our two-year old son Joel to the emergency ward. He was unconscious and not responding to anything that we did. We soon learned that he had suffered some type of seizure or convulsion. He has been in the hospital every since. After blood tests, a CTscan, an EEG (Neurology), and more... he has been diagnosed with encephalitis. Encephalitis is simply an inflammation of the brain and is usually a very rare consequence of a viral infection. It is slightly different from meningitis.

He is still recovering in the hospital.

The nurses were alert and began to treat him immediately, but his right side has been affected and as of last night, his speech had not yet returned. Please pray for my grandfather,James McBride,he is in the hospital with pancreatitis. He also has a blockage of his renal artery and some spots on his liver. They have called in an oncologist to look at him.

If you could have those to the church by Wednesday night, that would help me to know how much to buy on Thursday; but anytime before Sunday that you could bring them would be great!

Also, if you can help with providing candy for Saturday's Easter Egg Hunt, it would be greatly appreciated as well. Please bring all donations by Wednesday night.

One more thing about the Easter presentation: next Monday, beginning at 8:00 a.m., we will be tearing down the set and setting the foyer and auditorium back up. If you can help at any time, please let me know. If you have a pickup that I could use on Monday to move props to the bus barn (or come with your own that we can use), that would be great as well.

Please pray for Pam Brady in the passing of her son, David Miles, he was 19 years old and the last time we talked with her he was in Iraq. I am not sure what happened but I know he was in the military.

This is from the DNJ website: Marine Lance Cpl. David Harrison Miles, 19, of Madison, Ala., passed away Monday. He was born Feb. 12, 1989, in Huntsville, Ala. He graduated from Bob Jones High School in 2006, where he participated in ROTC. He was an Eagle Scout and attended the University of Alabama. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of joining the U.S. Marine Corps in May 2007, and was recently promoted to Lance Cpl. after graduating from the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, N.C.

HI everyone
I and my best friend know the power of prayer. My best friend moved to Florida with his dad 2 years ago. His mom is an alcoholic and he has not heard from her in a very long time. This is the longest period of time he has gone without having any contact with his mom. As of right now, they can not find her at all--which really scares him. We ask that you help us pray in hopes that God will let us know something about her, but in His timing not ours. Also pray for the my friend's and my patience in the wait. He is the only family his mom has left. Her siblings refuse to have anything to do with her. We pray she is safe and doing well. My friend's church is praying for her and we would appreciate it if you would keep her in your prayers also. Thank you church family.

My brave and courageous little 10 year old friend, Chase Donnell, went to be with Jesus at 3:50 am this morning. His 7 month fight against Burkitts Lymphoma has truly been an inspiration and testament by touching so many people's lives by those who knew him and even those that didn't. Four people were baptized yesterday, as a result. Continue to pray for his parents Jenn and Clint and their whole family during this difficult time. The next prayer request is from Sherry Feathers:

I would like for our church family to pray for our son-in-law's (Sean) father, Mike Corcoran. He was admitted to MTMC Wednesday morning (after being discharged from the ER the night before) with back pain, various other symptoms have arisen over the past two days and this morning they moved him to ICU because some of his vital organs are beginning to shut down. Please pray for him and their family for wisdom in dealing with the doctor's decisions as well as the emotions of not knowing what has caused this. They have not been able to even diagnose what he is experiencing.

I just wanted to ask that you continue praying for those injured by the tornado on Feb. 5th. David Wilson and Matt Kelley are doing much better. Over the last few weeks, both have had many surgeries but are recovering well. David is hopefully heading into rehab to begin walking again sometime this weekend. He will be in there for 3 to 5 weeks so I'm sure prayers for endurance, strength and patience would be appreciated. The doctors hope to have him off of dialysis by next weekend. Please continue to keep these two in your prayers.
Also, Please pray for Jason Kasper. He was released from the hospital shortly after the tornado with what seemed to be minor issues. He is now back in the hospital due to having a few seizures and problems with the injuries to his back and side.

We have prayer requests that have been e-mailed from Tonya Roden and Michelle Snyder. Both requests concern Chase Donnell. Here is Tonya's e-mail:

Please pray for Chase Donnell, he is the 10 year old boy that I have requested pray for before. He was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma in August 2007 and has been battling this cancer ever since. This little boy has been through so much. He has been on a rollercoaster through this journey going through chemo, then he went into remission, the cancer returned, had chemo again, had radiation, and even had a bone marrow transplant 30 days ago. He has had several side effects along the way. On Monday, the doctors decided to discharge him so that he and his family could go to the Ronald McDonald House which is 2 blocks from Vanderbilt Hospital to recovery. He was an hour away from getting his discharge papers and got a fever and they ran several tests which determined that the cancer had returned. He now has 2 masses and the doctors gave the family two options. The first option is to give him radiation which would only shrink the masses, then give him chemo which he has had the strongest kind before and the masses still came back, then go through another bone marrow transplant. The doctors said all of these would be alot worse on Chase this time and it still is not guarantee to work and gave him less of a chance than last time which was 30 percent. The second option is to give him radiation to make him comfortable and let him go home and call in hospice. In which, he would only live a matter of weeks. Chase has been through so much and his body is so tired and weak. Just imagine this is a brave 10 year old boy going through all of this! Chase is aware of the options and the possibility that he is going to die. He had a pug dog, that he thought the world of, and it died when he was first diagnosed with cancer. He told his parents that all he wanted was a pug puppy and wanted to go home and that if he died he would be with his other pug dog that was in heaven. His parents have found him a pug puppy that will be waiting on him. Please pray for Chase and his family for peace, courage, and strength throughout the rest of his journey.

This is Michelle Snyder's e-mail concerning Chase:

I don't know the Donnell family personally but have heard of Chase's battle with Burkitt's Lymphoma which began in August I believe. If I understand correctly, he also has a first cousin who was diagnosed with a different type of cancer one month before him. Chase is ten and Dylan is eleven. I think Dylan is maybe in remission. Not for sure about that. Anyway,
Chase's mom journals on CarePages.com and keeps everyone up to date on Chase's progress. About a month ago, Chase had a bone marrow transplant and was supposed to be leaving the hospital two days ago. In fact, he had been discharged when he began to run a fever and his bloodwork came back showing a recurrence of the tumor in his abdomen. He had a PET scan last night and the tumor is the size it was when he was diagnosed and there may`be more. His only option is radiation again and it would be agonizing for him. Or, he could choose to go home until his Jesus takes him home. These are excerpts taken from his mom's latest two journal entries. Please pray for this brave young man and his family.

There is not a final decision yet but he thinks he wants a little radiation to shrink the tumor that is as big now as it was when we first admitted. So we will stay here and start radiation for a few days here, then we will go home. That will buy us a few weeks. And we are pretty sure that is where we are going and all he wants is his puppy and then go to heaven to be with his pug that died when we first came here. HE just wants Raleigh...

He is okay...us not so much. But they just can't cure my baby

Sarah McCaslin called and asked for us to pray for her brother, Jerald Insell. He had open heart surgery in December and everything went well.
Since then he developed a staph infection in his legs and also has complications with bone cancer. All of this has made him weak and he now has double pneumonia. Please pray that he will recover from this and that he will regain his strength.

I have a couple of prayer requests I was hoping the church would pray about with me:

1.) Please pray for my brother, Shawn Trail, tomorrow (2/27) and Thursday as he will be taking his Bar Exam for the 2nd time since obtaining his law degree. Please pray he will pass the exam, but, more importantly, for God's will, especially if His will is for Shawn not to pass and possibly do something else with his life.

2.) Please pray for Josh, Melissa, Troy & Eli Daniel. They leave tomorrow (2/27) to start their lives as missionaries in Brazil. Please pray for their flight as it will be very, very long especially with a 3 year old (Troy) and a 5 month old (Eli). Please pray for them as they search for housing once they arrive in Brazil and as they begin language school in a few weeks. Also, both Josh & Melissa are very close to their immediate & extended families who all live in the Chattanooga area so please pray for all of them during this transition.
